About The Author

The truth is that when I began working on this website, I was informed (time and time again) that it had nothing to do with me. As a writer, my goal is not to tell you about myself. I am irrelevant to the work I create. In my clearly naive and foolish opinion, the purpose of removing the author’s personal life from the author’s website is formed under the pretense that all that matters is all that can be sold (that is to say, the work I have created). I am replaceable, in other words.

If I were a smart man, I would heed the words of my fellow writers and editors. I would simply create another about me section which has nothing to do with me and everything to do with my achievements and/or what it is I have written (please keep in mind that the work we produce and the accolades we receive are not always related). Instead, I want to share with you, whoever you are, who it is who is actually writing the work I so dearly hope you one day decide to read.

I’m the guy on the right. My wife is in the middle. She’s a physician working in Northern California. Honestly, she has way too much empathy for one person, shown best by her ability to endure my bullshit. The giant ball of curly head lying on top of her right shoulder is our daughter. If I had to write about my greatest achievement in life, it would be her. I could not ever imagine having created such a brilliant child.

As for myself, my name is Steve Alan Stevens. For obvious reasons, I go by my middle name of Alan in my personal life. Friends and family know me as this, but Steve Stevens is a much better author’s name. It’s one of those names that just sort of sticks out, which of course is why I prefer my middle name. I’d rather not be noticed, to be honest. It makes life so much easier.

I studied psychology and sociology for a while, but the kiddo came along and sort of interrupted all of that. I am a staunch advocate of children who are victims of abuse. In particular, I was studying psychology in hopes of one day working with male children who experience trauma or abuse. The first novel I have written (but have yet to publish), Oakmont Project, reflects this personal interest of mine with it’s main character, Samuel Ward.

As a resident of Northern California, I am, as well, an advocate for global climate change awareness. The Santa Rosa fires displaced close friends of ours. The fires north of where we lived impacted a good many friends and co-workers, as well as those individuals my wife sees as a doctor. In California, Fire Season is now a year around tragedy. There is always a chance we will wake up one more to find another town burned off the map.

The first inspiration the for Oakmont Project were the many fires marching throughout California, as well as a series of research studies based around California and global climate change. As it stands now, my family is deciding whether or not we can stay in California. With risk of fire increasing and general environmental issues causing health issues even within our own family (namely, asthma), it remains in question whether we can stay or not.

Oh, and in case you did not figure it out on your own, beard length directly reflects current level of sleep (or lack thereof).
